Happy to report that I’ve finally gotten out and done some more shooting on my Infrared-converted Canon XTi. I don’t use this camera near enough so when we planned a camping trip, I knew this was my chance to get some great captures out in nature, where the IR SLR really shines. Here’s a gallery of my favorites. Some are color-shifted to appear blue instead of red, a few I left red and one is black’n’white. Enjoy:
So I actually made this a long time ago but am just now getting around to posting it. It’s a short video of 4 timelapses that I shot on my infrared-converted Canon XTi. One really important trick which allowed me to do this easily was told to me by the guy who did the conversion for me: take a photo of green leaves or grass, preferrably blurred out. Then use that image as the source for a custom white balance. Now if you take a photo using that custom white balance, it looks exactly as you see in the video! No processing required, no color shifting. Now that is a convenient tip!

There’s also a color night sky timelapse from the T3i in there, shot on the night I proposed to my wife. Obviously pretty special to me! The sky looks really awesome in that IR landscape shot. I want to do some more timelapses like this with moving clouds since the sky shows up so contrasty and dark in IR.
Here’s another infrared shot, taken with the modified Infrared Canon XTi. This time I dumped the color and just went B&W. Normally I like the color, but something about this shot looked good in monochrome, the way all the leaves are super bright.

Probably my favorite shot I’ve taken in infrared so far. I used that trick where you go to channel mixer in photoshop and you swap red to blue (and versa vicea) . One important tidbit with that trick: you don’t need to do it 100%. You can set red to 90% blue and blue to 90% red, which is precisely what I did here.
